Cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude

At a time when it seems as if the world is on fire, we are so proud and incredibly thankful to be living in the greatest country in the world. America may not be perfect — but it is a country that offers unprecedented freedoms, abundance and liberties to all, second to none! Sometimes we forget about the things that really matter and are taken away by all the chaotic events that happen around us. This year has been full of crazy political campaigns but as we start to approach the holiday season we should all take the time to wind down and be thankful for all the good things this year has brought to us. Gratitude and thankfulness provides a mindset that allows us to see the good in the people who make up our lives and this vision extends to the world at large. This thanksgiving don’t focus on setting the perfect table or all the delicious food, but instead look around and appreciate the people around you and take a second to let them know you love them. A lot of things get in the way of having a meaningful gathering such as technological distractions, the idea of what a family should be as set by movies and TV, the convenience of packaged food and increasingly polarized political views creating arguments. Another great way of appreciating others is by clinking your glass often in praise of others. Toast the chefs and hosts, generously complimenting them, even if the turkey is a bit dry and the green beans are overcooked. You will enjoy the food and company more if you prime yourself for appreciative thoughts by voicing them loudly and often. On a closing note, Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships. Those who give thanks live more optimistic and felt better about their lives. Surprisingly, they also exercised more and had fewer visits to physicians than those who focused on sources of aggravation.

It truly is a wonderful life to live!

Happy Thanksgiving and here’s to a Fabulous Holiday Season!
