Where did summer go!? One week we were grilling outdoors and driving with the top down, and all of a sudden fall is here! And with fall comes keeping warm with sweaters and pumpkin lattes. While we can keep warm with gloves and wool socks, we can forget what the suddenly cooler temperatures can do to our vehicles! Here are some quick tips to keep your car in tip-top shape as the temperatures get cooler!
- Get an oil change! Make sure to refer to your owner’s manual to see what type of oil your vehicle needs during different temperatures. Getting a regular oil change will ensure that your engine is running properly and extends the life of your vehicle.
- Change your windshield wipers! Chances are they are a little worn after a long summer of warm temperatures and frequent thunderstorms. Make sure to get the proper size for both the diver’s and passenger’s side. And make sure to change out your wiper fluid for one that’s meant for lower temperatures and that can defrost your windshield!
- Check your antifreeze! Make sure that your engine is protected by adding the right antifreeze. Be sure to purchase a pre-mixed brand or cut the antifreeze by adding 50% water to the mixture.
- Snow tires? If you live anywhere that sees a lot of snow frequently (like in Tahoe), consider equipping your vehicle with snow tires. If you do not plan on getting snow tires, check your tire pressure and make sure they are filled to your manufacturer’s specifications.
We hope these quick care tips keep your on the road as fall approaches. Stay warm!
