It’s not a secret, one of the greatest things about living in Northern Nevada is how close we are to one of the most amazing lakes in the world, with its crystal clear waters, stunning surrounding landscape and fun in the sun activities, Lake Tahoe is the place to be this summer!
When you’re getting ready to hit the open sea, the last thing on your mind should be, “Am I fully covered?” Capital Insurance Service will provide you with an Insurance policy tailored to your personal and financial needs. From day one we have been working with Progressive to bring you the best coverage options available, here are some tips to make your trip up to Tahoe safe and stress-free.
- Know Your Boat
When it comes to boat or personal watercraft we insure the following: Runabout, Mini Jet Boat, Sailboat, Pontoon, Houseboat, Cabin Cruiser, Other fishing boat, Bass Boat, and Personal Watercraft. If your watercraft is less than 16 feet long, it is typically referred to as a “personal watercraft”, this also includes recreational watercrafts, such as Jet Skis. Actual “boats” by definition run from 16 feet to about 25 feet, anything longer than 26 feet is officially classified as a “yacht.”
Insurance for these different types of watercraft vary greatly, but Insurance for
personal watercraft can often be “bundled” with other Insurance policies, such as your
home or auto policies, which can often mean savings. When shopping for a policy look for one that covers injuries to you and your passengers, as well as liability. (Insider tip: Be sure to consider insurance for the trailer you use to haul your watercraft up the hill as well.)
Half of all boating accidents result in injuries. And even if you’ve been boating for decades, what about the other guy? He might be a little unsteady on the water, and even worse: he may not have insurance. Our features and coverage options can cover you, your family, your gear,
and your boat from the unpredictable.

Progressive just introduced expanded coverage for boat propulsion systems it meets boater’s needs for more complete protection. The coverage is called Propulsion Plus and it pays to repair or replace the lower unit of an outboard motor, or the out-drive of a stern drive motor, in the event of a breakdown. This is an optional coverage but for as little as 38$ per year opposed to the potential thousands of dollars you can spend to replace the propulsion system this new coverage can only save you money.
