2020 has been a rough year for everyone. During quarantine many businesses have remained closed leaving out many fun summer activities that we all enjoy. It is important during these difficult times that we keep our mind occupied. Below are some activities you can do while still practicing social distancing.

Drive-In Movies:

Many people miss the experience of going to the move theater and enjoying a large tub of popcorn. While movie theaters remain closed, drive-in movies are making it possible for those who enjoy the big screen. Here are some tips for your trip to the drive-ins:

Keep a mask handy in the case you need to use the restroom or leave your vehicle.

To limit your exposure, it is best to remain in your vehicle. You can make this easier by bringing your own snacks (if allowed), as well as bringing your own trash bag and hand sanitizer.

Camp Out in Your Backyard:

Camping is a favorite activity for many households. Being that many parks or campsites are closed, the areas for campers have been limited. However, you can still get the camping experience right in the comfort and safety of your backyard! You can make it fun for everyone in the family with activities including:

Building your own tent (tip: place a yoga mat under your sleeping bag for a comfier night’s rest)

Use glowsticks to make DIY lanterns

Create a backyard scavenger hunt. You can look for different types of flowers, trees, animals/insects, or try to collect different types of rocks or stones.

Master Something New:

Businesses being closed means there are people now stuck with more free time. Make the best of your time and try to learn something new that you’ve always wanted to master. The great thing is that we have the internet where we can lean how do to just about anything.

Take this time to practice your cooking/baking skills, learn a new language, or master the latest trending dances!

Start a Virtual Book Club:

In order to limit exposure, social gatherings have been put on pause. It is still important to check in with your loved ones and continue connecting in other ways! Starting a virtual book club is easy especially having access to E-books.

You can still gather together via video calls through Skype or Zoom, or even through text message group chats and discuss your new favorite read.

Work Out:

Being that gyms are no longer an option for some people, it has become easier to feel lazy and want to simply continue watching Netflix. Though working out is crucial to maintaining our physical and mental health.

There are many 30-Day challenges that you can complete. It’s an amazing feeling when you accomplish it and see your results at the end!

Some personal trainers and fitness influencers are doing free live streams on their social medias like Instagram and YouTube to continue offering their support to the community. You can FaceTime your friends and follow the stream together to make it fun.

If working out at home isn’t your thing, you can definitely get some fresh air by going for a run or walk to get your body moving!
