Thanksgiving cleaning checklist:

Two Weeks Ahead: Tackle any organizational tasks or things that will stay relatively clean for 2 weeks.

  • Clean the refrigerator to make room for Thanksgiving food

  • Clean out a coat closet if you plan on hanging guest’s coats there

  • Do any outdoor chores: raking leaves, etc.

  • Wash any serving dishes or utensils that haven’t don’t get used regularly

  • If you are using special China or glassware, wash and polish

  • If you have any cluttered areas, you don’t want guests to see, organize them now

 

One-Week Ahead: This is the time to do a deep cleaning so that the house will be just need a quick touchup the day before

  • Thoroughly dust, paying extra attention to windowsills and other places guests might lean and talk

  • Vacuum, and sweep.

  • Use a brush attachment on the sofa and other upholstered furniture.

  • Clean windows in dining room, kitchen, living room and any glass in the front door

  • Wash and iron any tablecloths and napkins that have been stored for a while

  • Deep clean bathrooms guests will be using- sink, toilet, shower, tub, mirrors, and floors.  Don’t forget to dust!

  • Thoroughly clean the oven and stovetop and exhaust fan- you’ll want to have a clean range for all the cooking you’ll be doing

 

 

THE POLAR EXPRESS

All Aboard! Experience the magic of the famed holiday story come to life. Riders are encouraged to wear their favorite pajamas and partake in caroling and a reading of the classic story on their way to the North Pole. 

All riders will receive hot chocolate and a holiday treat before Santa and his helpers board the train to give each rider the first gift of Christmas – a silver sleigh bell.

The Polar Express Train Ride runs Wednesday Through Sunday, with some exceptions.
Trains depart at 5PM, 6:30PM and 8PM.

Día de los Muertos

The Nevada State Museum joins Western Nevada College and Visit Carson City to offer this extraordinary cultural event free to everyone!

Schedule events:

  • Friday, November 4 from 5pm – 7pm: Altar presentations with music and traditional refreshments.

  • Saturday, November 5 from 10am – 3pm: Traditional crafts, music, and dance. A food truck will be on Curry Street. There will also be a museum-sponsored community altar so that members of the community can participate in remembering departed loved ones.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a traditional Mexican holiday that pays tribute to the lives of loved ones who have passed on. The Día de los Muertos celebration traces its roots to the time of the Aztec people in Central America but was later influenced by cultural and religious practices brought by the Spanish.

With only five main ingredients, this popular, quick-and-easy recipe can be your staple any month of the year, even during holidays. Three of those five ingredients include three different types of chocolate to overload the cookies with absolute deliciousness. These extra soft, triple chocolate cookies are waiting for you! Here’s a little recipe you can do with the little ones.

INGREDIENTS & DIRECTIONS

  • PREP TIME: 10 MIN

  • BAKE TIME: 10 MIN

  • COOL TIME: 20 MIN

Equipment Needed

  • OVEN

  • MIXING BOWL

  • COOKIE SHEET

  • MEASURING CUPS

INGREDIENTS

1 PACKAGE- Devil’s food chocolate cake mix

¾ CUP- butter (1-1/2 sticks), softened

¼ CUP-  HERSHEY’S Cocoa

2- EGGS

2 CUPS- HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Chips (11.5 oz pkg.)

¾ CUP- quick-cooking oats (optional)

DIRECTIONS

  1. Heat oven to 350°F. Mix all ingredients, add in HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate Chips last.

  2. Roll dough into 2-inch balls and place on a ungreased cookie sheet.

  3. Bake 10-12 minutes, until set. (TIP) Smaller cookies can be made. Remember to reduce the baking time a few minutes for smaller cookies.
